May. 27, 2008 | PS Force Majeure in India India?s Supreme Petrochem, has declared a force majeure (FM) on exports from its 272,000 tonne/year polystyrene (PS) plant at Ratnagiri, in Maharashtra state, due to low availability of feedstock polybutadiene rubber (PBR), a company source said on Friday.
?We are now running only one of our three high impact polystyrene (HIPS) and general purpose polystyrene (GPPS) lines, from which we are catering to the domestic market requirements,? he said.
PBR is an essential feedstock for HIPS production.
?However, our plants are structured in such a way that we cannot run our GPPS lines without also running our HIPS lines,? the source said.
Availability of PBR has been extremely short in the European and Asian markets, from which Supreme sources its supply.
Supreme is the country?s largest PS producer. Other PS producers in India are LG Polymers and Pushpa Polymers.
